The rapidly-evolving field of using adipose stem cells to regenerate tissue is also featured. This issue includes sections on new products, new surgical techniques, and new technologies. Other sections address office practice management and advice for young surgeons. For this issue, the patient safety focus is on multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs).

In this issue, we highlight Dr. Dirk Richter's overview of lower lid retraction after blepharoplasty and Dr. Oscar Ramirez' management of Bichat's fat pad in facial shaping. Finally, Dr. Val Lambros gives us his insights into facial aging, concepts that differ from our traditional understanding and are beautifully articulated through his careful observations of photos over time. In What's Hot, take the time to understand Dr. Hema Sundaram's analysis of the flow characteristics of fillers. Also, I had the opportunity to moderate a conversation between Dr. Fabio Nahas and Dr. Simeon Wall, Jr., on some of the controversial aspects of abdominoplasty and lipoabdominoplasty. These two are excellent young thinkers in our specialty on this topic who achieve outstanding clinical results! Earlier this year, I met Dr. Alexander Dagum and saw his work on vascularized free fibula transfers to the upper extremity. He has briefly described his technique in a well-written article under Focus On Technique. We have included two excellent articles on the pervasive problem of seromas by Dr. Al Aly and Dr. Leroy Young, our two Pulse News co-editors. Also, look for good information on using video by Lane Wyrick and the very cool iPad in your practice by Dr. Jason Pozner. Finally, Dr. Michael Hanemann, Jr., records his thoughts about how to prepare for the American Board of Plastic Surgery oral boards.
